Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has expressed Pakistan’s concerns over Western nations’ reluctance to acknowledge the ground realities in India, citing economic and strategic interests.
The prime minister’s comments come in the wake of Canada’s disclosure of India’s alleged involvement in the murder of one of its citizens, leading to the expulsion of an Indian intelligence representative, followed by India’s counteraction.
PM Kakar has tied this incident to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Hindu nationalist ideology known as Hindutva.
Earlier this week, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau claimed that Indian agents might have been connected to the killing of Sikh separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar near Vancouver in June, citing “credible allegations”.
Addressing the Council on Foreign Relations in New York during the UN General Assembly, Kakar stated, “These proponents of Hindutva are growing increasingly confident and extending their influence beyond their region.”
He further commented, “The regrettable killing of Mr. Singh on Canadian soil reflects this concerning trend.”
Kakar also noted that, regrettably, some Western capitals seem to overlook this reality due to their economic and strategic interests.
He emphasized that the rising wave of Hindutva-inspired anti-Muslim extremism in India should be a matter of concern for the international community, including the United States.
