Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has urged India to collaborate in the investigation into the murder of Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia. However, Canada has declined to release its evidence.
Trudeau’s call comes in the wake of credible allegations linking Indian government agents to Nijjar’s murder, which elicited a strong response from New Delhi. Nijjar, a 45-year-old Canadian citizen, was the victim.
Notably, traditional Canadian allies have maintained a cautious stance on this issue, partially due to the perception of India as a counterweight to China’s growing influence.
Trudeau emphasized Canada’s commitment to working with India and stressed that their intent is not to provoke or create problems during a press conference at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
