The International Cricket Council (ICC) has made a significant announcement regarding the prize money for the upcoming Cricket World Cup 2023. The tournament, set to be held in India, will feature a whopping $10 million prize pool, with the winning team earning an unprecedented $4 million.
According to details shared on the ICC website, the runners-up in the final match will receive a substantial prize of $2 million. During the group stage, where the ten participating teams will compete in a round-robin format, each victory will be rewarded with $40,000.
Teams reaching the semi-finals but not advancing to the final will be awarded $800,000 each. Additionally, the six teams eliminated after the group stage will receive $100,000 each.
The eight teams that have already secured their spots in the mega event include New Zealand, England, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Australia, Afghanistan, South Africa, and India, who have qualified automatically as the tournament hosts.
It’s worth noting that both the Netherlands and Sri Lanka will have to compete in qualifiers to secure their spots in the World Cup.
The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 is scheduled to take place in India, featuring ten teams vying for the coveted title. The tournament will be held across ten venues from October 5 to November 19, with the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad hosting both the opening match and the final.
The competition’s round-robin format will see a total of 45 league matches being played, providing fans with plenty of cricketing action. In addition to the group stage matches, each participating team will have the opportunity to play two warm-up matches before the official commencement of the mega event.
The top four teams from the group stage will qualify for the semi-finals, which are set to take place in Mumbai on November 15 and in Kolkata on November 16. To account for any unforeseen circumstances, reserve days have been allocated for the semi-finals and the final match.
