In response to the detention of the former Prime Minister and Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), heightened security measures have been put in place both inside and outside Adiala Jail.
The decision to enhance security was made jointly by the Rawalpindi Police Security Branch and relevant authorities following a comprehensive security survey, the source told PakPROFILE.com.
Subsequent to the security survey, rigorous search operations were conducted in the vicinity of Adiala Jail, including shops and residential areas. Police pickets have been strategically positioned on both sides of Adiala Road, reinforcing security arrangements not only along the road but also in the rear and surrounding areas of the jail.
Key recommendations stemming from the security survey include the establishment of regular police check-posts on Adiala Road and in the vicinity of the jail, securing the rear side of the facility, and intensifying security in the surrounding areas. Additionally, a meticulous record of all individuals visiting the jail, including their Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) details, will be maintained. To bolster vigilance, a 24-hour patrolling system has been proposed for Adiala Road and its environs.
In light of these recommendations, a meeting was convened, attended by the Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Rawalpindi, the Chief Traffic Officer, and other senior police officials, at Adiala Jail. During the meeting, it was decided that the jail administration would assume responsibility for security measures within the jail’s boundaries and doors. Simultaneously, the Rawalpindi Police would take charge of security arrangements on Adiala Road and the surrounding areas.
The meeting underscored the importance of making security arrangements more effective and foolproof. Accordingly, it was mandated that the jail administration would ensure stringent security measures within the jail premises, while the Rawalpindi Police would ensure the safety and security of Adiala Road and its environs.
These proactive security measures are a testament to the commitment of authorities to ensure the safety and stability of the area during this period of heightened security concern.
