The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has submitted a detailed report to the Supreme Court, affirming the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan’s (TLP) innocence regarding any involvement in anti-state activities in the Faizabad Dharna case. The report, based on a comprehensive examination of the Ministry of Interior and affiliated agencies’ findings, has cleared the TLP of allegations related to terrorism and anti-state behavior.
Notably, the ECP’s report sheds light on the TLP’s financial transactions, emphasizing the transparent documentation of a sum of Rs1.5 million in their official account. The report dismisses any suspicions of prohibited funding, highlighting the organization’s full disclosure and the insignificance of the sum in question for the TLP.
Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa’s commitment to enforcing the 2019 judgment in the Faizabad Dharna case has triggered discussions about the accountability of powerful entities within the security establishment. The upcoming hearing on November 1 will witness the Supreme Court revisiting the case, with various respondents, including the ECP and PEMRA, submitting their implementation reports by October 27.
