Iran is not looking to escalate regional tensions but believes it needs to punish Israel to prevent further instability, the country’s foreign ministry spokesperson has said, Reuters reports.
The statement comes days after the assassination of Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, which Iran and multiple Middle Eastern countries held Israel responsible for. Israel has neither commented on nor denied the accusation.
Meanwhile, The Lebanese group says its drone attack on an Israeli military site near the Malkia settlement in northern Israel hit “its targets accurately”, Al Jazeera reports.
Earlier, the Israeli army said it had intercepted a “suspicious aerial target” that crossed from Lebanon in the Western Galilee area. The statement said the UAV fell in the area of Malkia, with no injuries reported.
