Justice Ali Baqar Najafi of the Lahore High Court (LHC) criticized the law officer on Friday for the delay in submitting the cabinet’s decision on a review application against the detention order of PTI supporter and fashion designer Khadija Shah.
The court was hearing a plea filed by Khadija Shah’s husband, Jehanzeb Amin, challenging the detention order and requesting the court to restrain authorities from removing or transferring Khadija from Lahore’s jurisdiction.
The law officer informed the court that the matter had been forwarded to the cabinet, assuring an expedited decision in its meeting. However, the petitioner’s counsel, advocate Sameer Khosa, strongly opposed the government’s conduct, stating that the matter had been lingering with various pretexts for several days.
Expressing dissatisfaction, Justice Najafi directed the law officer to present the cabinet’s decision as soon as possible.
In earlier proceedings, the judge had instructed the concerned authorities to promptly decide the application related to Khadija Shah’s detention. The petitioner’s counsel had previously raised concerns about non-compliance with the court’s order and the prolonged detention of Khadija Shah, who had already been granted bail in two FIRs.
Jehanzeb Amin contends that the detention order was issued illegally after his wife was granted bail in all cases, raising questions about the transparency and legality of the legal proceedings.
