The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) has made a groundbreaking announcement regarding a substantial gas discovery in Rahim Yar Khan.

According to an OGDC spokesperson, a significant gas reservoir has been unearthed from Exploration Well CHK 214-1, situated in the Rahim Yar Khan district of Punjab. This exploration block, known as Maari East Block, is 100% owned and operated by OGDC.

As per the spokesperson, the company commenced drilling in the well on June 29, 2023, and reached a depth of 1851 meters. Following this drilling, the discovery of substantial gas reserves was confirmed.

From the well, an impressive daily production of 1.1 million cubic feet of gas (MMCFD) has been recorded in the Dongan Formation, while Swabi Main Limestone has yielded a daily production of 1.31 MMCFD of gas.

The discovery in Rahim Yar Khan is expected to play a pivotal role in addressing the local energy demands and reducing dependence on external sources.

An OGDC spokesperson further emphasized the company’s commitment to ensuring the nation’s energy requirements are met with efficiency and innovation, underlining their dedication to delivering top-notch performance.
