Pakistan’s permanent representative to the UN, Munir Akram, advocated for serious consideration of the OIC’s proposal for deploying a protection force in Gaza and the West Bank.
His statements were made during the 10th Emergency Special UNGA Session, as Israel’s aggressive actions continue to escalate Akram highlighted the urgent need to halt the ongoing violence and killings in Gaza to facilitate the pursuit of a lasting two-state solution. He underlined the humanitarian crisis faced by Palestinians, emphasizing the critical importance of international protection for the Palestinian people.
The ambassador condemned the systematic and brutal Israeli attacks, which violate international humanitarian law and constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity. He also stressed the importance of accountability for the atrocities being committed.
Akram further urged consideration of measures to prevent the recurrence of such catastrophic events, emphasizing the Palestinians’ right to self-determination and their struggle against foreign occupation. The need for a resolution to the Gaza conflict and the prevention of further civilian casualties was also emphasized.
