In a significant move to provide relief to the public grappling with inflation, the interim government has slashed petrol prices by Rs40 per litre and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs15.

As per the latest announcement from the Ministry of Finance on its official X handle, the prices of petrol and HSD will now stand at Rs283.38 and Rs303.18 respectively. Furthermore, the government has also reduced the rates of light diesel and kerosene oil by Rs19.59 and Rs22.43 per litre, respectively, for the upcoming fortnight.

Despite the reduction in prices, the government has implemented a petroleum levy (PL) of Rs60 per litre on petrol and increased the levy on diesel to Rs55 per litre. However, it has opted to waive the general sales tax (GST) on all petroleum products. The revised prices will be effective from midnight, October 16, until October 31.
