Authorities in Bajaur have cleared four additional villages of militants, allowing displaced residents to return home after months of security operations. According to a notification from the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Relief and Human Rights), Bara Laghari, Lara Laghari, Darmiyaani Laghari in Lowi Mamund tehsil and Dabrai in War Mamund tehsil were declared safe late Sunday.
Officials said more than 4,000 displaced families have so far resettled in their villages. With the latest development, a total of 14 areas have been reopened to residents since the start of the clearance campaign.
Meanwhile, Bajaur police launched a crackdown on Non-Custom Paid (NCP) vehicles, citing law and order concerns. Several unregistered vehicles were impounded as part of the drive, with authorities urging owners to complete profiling with the excise department. Officials said nearly half of such vehicles in the district remain unregistered, despite repeated calls for compliance.
Analysts note that the dual push — clearing villages of militants and tightening local regulations — reflects an effort to stabilise Bajaur’s volatile security environment. Residents, while relieved to return home, continue to face challenges of rebuilding livelihoods in areas long scarred by conflict.
