Roshan Bibi, a 28-year-old mother of two, has emerged as a symbol of bravery after surviving a targeted firing incident on a passenger bus traveling the Karakoram Highway. Roshan, who sustained six gunshot wounds while protecting her family, has been shifted to Karachi for medical treatment.
The incident, which occurred last week on a bus traveling from Ghizar district of Gilgit-Baltistan to Rawalpindi, claimed the lives of nine passengers and left 26 others injured. Roshan, sitting by the window with her five-year-old daughter and two-year-old son, acted swiftly when the assailants opened fire.
Her husband, Bulbul Shah, recounted how Roshan shielded their children by hiding them under the seats, pushed him to the bus floor, and covered the family with her own body in a bid to protect them from the hail of bullets.
Despite sustaining six gunshot wounds in her abdomen, Roshan’s quick thinking and courage saved her loved ones. Three bullets have been successfully removed, while the remaining three remain in her body due to medical complications.
Currently admitted to a private hospital in Karachi, Roshan has undergone tests and scans, with plans for additional surgeries to remove the remaining bullets under the guidance of medical experts.
In an interview, Roshan acknowledged some numbness in parts of her back due to the injuries but expressed gratitude that her children remained unharmed. She and her husband, Bulbul Shah, are relieved that they are now on the path to recovery.
Roshan, having undergone two operations, was airlifted from Islamabad to Karachi following doctors’ recommendations. The courageous survivor is set to face more surgeries as she continues her journey towards recovery.
