Grant Bradburn, Pakistan’s head coach, has offered his support and confidence in the team’s top-order batting ahead of their ICC World Cup clash against Sri Lanka. Despite recent challenges in the powerplay, Bradburn emphasized the team’s focus on continuous improvement and their quest to identify a winning formula.
During a press conference held in Hyderabad in anticipation of the match against Sri Lanka, Bradburn highlighted the team’s growing confidence, both among the players and coaching staff. He stressed the importance of critiquing performance not only in defeat but also when winning matches, emphasizing the team’s commitment to improvement.
Regarding the team’s batting performance in the powerplay, Bradburn acknowledged that it had not met expectations. Nevertheless, he expressed full faith in the top-order batsmen, stating, “We’ve got full faith in our top order. They will click at some stage.” He added that the team was open to trying various options to achieve the desired tempo for the innings.
Bradburn outlined the team’s objective of setting the right tempo in the middle order and the latter part of the innings. He explained that the team’s focus is on winning phases of the game, including the Powerplay, mid-phase, and the closing stages of both innings.
Addressing Hasan Ali’s contributions to the team, Bradburn praised his versatility in batting, bowling, fielding, and his positive presence in the dressing room.
Reflecting on the team’s preparation for the Sri Lanka match, Bradburn acknowledged that Sri Lanka had held the upper hand in recent white-ball encounters but highlighted that the players were familiar with their opponents. He mentioned the valuable insights provided by former coach Mickey Arthur, who had previously coached Sri Lanka.
Bradburn emphasized the importance of team unity, underscoring that it’s now about the collective group rather than individual performance. He also discussed the team’s efforts to clarify individual roles and responsibilities within the squad.
In terms of the unique challenges posed by Indian conditions, Bradburn acknowledged that they were unfamiliar to many players. He stressed the importance of scouting and research in understanding pitch conditions and commended the ground staff for their support.
Regarding the decision not to announce the playing XI in advance, Bradburn explained the team’s desire to showcase versatility in playing different combinations and multiple ways of winning matches. Pakistan’s options include playing four seamers or utilizing various spinners, offering flexibility in their approach to different opponents and conditions.
