In a historic triumph in Dunedin on Tuesday, the Pakistan women’s cricket team clinched their inaugural series victory against New Zealand women, breaking an earlier record of 8-0 in favor of the White Ferns in T20Is against Pakistan.
In two consecutive games, the Pakistani girls managed to rewrite history, overturning New Zealand’s previous dominance. The hosts, who posted a score of 127/7, were skillfully restricted by Pakistan after setting a target of 137/6.
Aalia Riaz contributed significantly, scoring 32 off 22 deliveries, including one shot over the boundary and three well-executed strokes to the fence. Opener Muneeba Ali added 35 to the scoreboard.
Despite a commendable fightback from New Zealand’s Georgia Pimmer and Hamma Rowe, who took the score to 89/6, disciplined bowling by the Pakistani team prevented a complete recovery. In the end, New Zealand fell short by 10 runs, as Fatima Sana successfully defended 17 runs in the last over.
Fatima Sana emerged as a key player, securing 3 wickets, while Sadia Iqbal contributed by sending 2 players back to the pavilion in a match that will be remembered as a historic moment for Pakistan women’s cricket.
