Pakistan’s Prime Minister has advised Cabinet members to avoid unnecessary foreign trips while the Cabinet granted approval for key appointments at the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
After the meeting, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Murtaza Solangi addressed a press conference and stated that the Prime Minister instructed Cabinet members not to undertake unnecessary trips.
The Cabinet approved key appointments at the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and former Lahore High Court judge Sahil Nasir was appointed as Deputy Chairman of NAB, and Syed Ahtesham Qadir Shah was appointed as NAB Prosecutor General.
The Cabinet also granted approval for the services of a Financial Advisory Consortium to scrutinize the Public Accounts Committee (PAC). Brigadier Shahid Aamir was authorized to receive a medal conferred by China based on a recommendation from the Foreign Ministry.
In addition, the Cabinet approved the extradition of a Pakistani national, Shehzad Ahmad, in a deceit case related to the Pakistan-UAE extradition treaty. The Cabinet affirmed the decisions made at the Economic Coordination Committee’s (ECC) meeting on October 3, 2023.
The Cabinet also ratified decisions related to onshore and offshore companies made in meetings on January 21 and 28 within the Cabinet Committee on State-Owned Enterprises (CCoSOEs).
Regarding Afghan citizens residing in Pakistan, it was clarified that no action is being taken against those who have been in Pakistan for the past 40 years and possess Proof of Registration (PoR) cards. Afghan citizens who were issued citizenship cards by the previous Afghan government are also not facing action, and Afghan government representatives were involved in their verification process.
However, a voluntary return deadline has been set for Afghan citizens residing illegally in Pakistan without visas or legal documents, which is October 31.
