Pakistan and Saudi Arabia reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in key sectors during a series of high-level meetings on Thursday.
Saudi Arabia’s Minister for Investment, Sheikh Khalid Bin Abdul Aziz Al Faleh, along with a high-powered delegation, met with President Asif Ali Zardari and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir in Islamabad to discuss a range of economic and strategic issues.
The Saudi delegation arrived in Pakistan on Wednesday night for a three-day official visit, during which multiple trade and investment agreements, along with Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), are expected to be signed. The delegation also plans to visit the Special Investment and Facilitation Council (SIFC) to explore investment opportunities in various sectors.
During a meeting at the President House, President Zardari and Minister Al Faleh emphasized the need for enhanced collaboration to promote prosperity and peace in the region, as well as among Muslim nations. President Zardari underscored the long-standing, brotherly relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia and expressed a desire to elevate these ties into a long-term strategic and economic partnership. He praised Saudi Arabia’s progress under its Vision 2030 and thanked the Kingdom for its continued support during challenging times.
Al Faleh acknowledged Pakistan’s strategic geographical importance and its potential for natural resources and renewable energy. He announced Saudi Arabia’s plans to invest in Pakistan’s infrastructure and mining sectors, with 25 agreements set to be signed during the visit. Both sides also agreed to enhance collaboration in agriculture and information technology.
In addition to President Zardari, several key Pakistani ministers, including Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Petroleum Minister Musadik Malik, and Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan, attended the meeting, alongside the Saudi Ambassador to Pakistan, Nawaf Saeed Al Malki.
Later, the Saudi delegation met COAS General Asim Munir in Rawalpindi. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the discussions centered on strengthening bilateral cooperation across various sectors. Gen Munir expressed deep appreciation for Saudi Arabia’s unwavering support for Pakistan and highlighted the strong bond between the two nations. He assured the delegation of Pakistan’s full support in fostering mutually beneficial economic outcomes.
The visit of one of the largest Saudi business delegations to Pakistan further strengthens the already deep fraternal ties between the two nations, signaling a promising era of economic cooperation.
