The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has made it clear that it has not “closed the doors” for fast bowler Mohammad Amir to make a return to international cricket. This statement comes after Amir retired from international cricket in 2020 following a dispute with PCB officials.
Pakistan Chief Selector Inzamam-ul-Haq emphasized during a press conference that Mohammad Amir, or any other player for that matter, is welcome to represent Pakistan if they perform well in domestic cricket. Haq highlighted the importance of strong performances in first-class cricket as the key criterion for player selection.
Haq further stated that neither the selection committee nor the cricket board has closed the doors for any player, including Mohammad Amir. This statement follows recent speculation among cricket fans that Amir might make a comeback to the national team, given the changes in the PCB’s leadership.
While Amir was not included in the 15-man squad announced for the upcoming ICC Men’s World Cup 2023, Haq’s statement leaves room for the fast bowler to potentially return to international cricket if he demonstrates strong performances in domestic leagues.
