Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Malik Ahmed Khan, who is visiting London, criticized the Supreme Court’s decision regarding amendments to the National Accountability Ordinance (NAB), calling the law “destructive for Pakistan.”
Mr. Ahmed, who is in London on a personal visit, clarified that he had not met with interim Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar, who is also staying at The Churchill hotel in central London. He denied any meeting with Mr. Kakar and stated that he had no knowledge of the caretaker prime minister’s presence at the hotel.
Regarding the Supreme Court’s decision on the NAB law amendments, Mr. Ahmed expressed strong reservations, describing the law as detrimental to Pakistan. He emphasized that the NAB law has created an environment of harassment and has discouraged civil servants from signing files and businessmen from making investments.
Mr. Khan highlighted that he had raised concerns about the NAB law in 2017 and called for its discussion in parliament. He reiterated that the law is being used to target politicians and emphasized the need for accountability to be carried out fairly.
Responding to speculations about Shehbaz Sharif’s rushed return to Pakistan, Mr. Ahmed stated that the Supreme Court’s decision was a significant development, and Shehbaz Sharif returned to discuss its implications, particularly any potential references that could arise from it.
When asked about his agreement with PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari’s stance on the NAB law, Mr. Ahmed affirmed his conviction that the law is destructive and harmful to the country.
