The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued an alert regarding a potential cyclone that has developed over the Rann of Kutch in India, which is likely to impact the Sindh coast late tonight or tomorrow morning.
The PMD alert, released at 10am today, indicates that a deep depression has been slowly moving west/southwest over the past 12 hours and is currently located approximately 270 kilometers east/southeast of Karachi.
According to the PMD, the system is expected to move towards the west/southwest and could emerge into the northeast Arabian Sea along the Sindh coast by late tonight or tomorrow morning. Due to favorable environmental conditions, the system is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm by tomorrow, initially moving in a west/southwest direction.
The PMD has forecast widespread rain and thunderstorms, along with isolated heavy rainfall, in Karachi and various districts of Sindh, including Tharparkar, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, Hyderabad, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Matiari, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Jamshoro, Dadu, and Shaheed Benazirabad, until August 31. The rain and storms may occur with occasional gaps.
Sea conditions are expected to be very rough, with squally winds reaching speeds of 50 to 60 km/hour. As a precaution, the PMD has advised fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea until August 31.
The PMD’s cyclone warning center in Karachi is closely monitoring the situation and will issue further updates as necessary. Authorities are urged to stay informed through PMD advisories.
