The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has criticized the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for its apparent shift in stance on elections. This criticism came after the party’s leader, Nawaz Sharif, avoided any mention of the upcoming elections in his highly-anticipated return address to the country following a four-year exile.
PPP leader Faisal Karim Kundi expressed his dissatisfaction with the PML-N’s altered narrative, highlighting that the party had previously emphasized the importance of general elections leading up to Nawaz Sharif’s homecoming.
Kundi emphasized that the absence of any mention of the upcoming elections in Nawaz’s speech was notable. He suggested that if Nawaz believed he had public support, he would have addressed the issue of the impending elections.
Nawaz Sharif’s return to Pakistan was marked by his criticism of the alleged victimization endured by him and his family during the rule of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led by Imran Khan. Despite making promises to address the country’s current challenges, Nawaz did not explicitly mention the PML-N’s plans for participating in the upcoming elections, scheduled by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for the end of January 2024.
Kundi also criticized the manner of Nawaz’s return and the apparent facilitation provided to the PML-N. He raised concerns about the use of public resources, such as trains, for political publicity, and emphasized the need for fair and transparent elections, warning against the potential consequences of election rigging.
The PPP leader stressed that his party does not advocate for the exclusion of any political party from the electoral process, highlighting the importance of allowing the public to decide the country’s leadership through a fair voting process. He emphasized the distinction between gathering crowds for public events and the crucial task of ensuring fair ballot box results.
