In a significant development, a delegation representing PTI, including senior leaders, met JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman in Islamabad. This meeting, approved by PTI chairman Imran Khan, has stirred speculation as both leaders are known adversaries despite their political history.
Although PTI’s Asad Qaiser emphasized that the meeting was a gesture of condolence (over the demise of Fazl’s mother-in-law), sources revealed that crucial national matters and the prevailing political situation were discussed during the one-hour interaction. The PTI delegation included Ali Muhammad Khan, Barrister Muhammad Ali Khan Saif, and Junair Akbar.
Recent reports suggest that Fazlur Rehman, also heading the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), has shown interest in leading national reconciliation efforts to promote political stability. Former senator Muhammad Ali Durrani’s proposal prompted Fazlur Rehman’s consideration of the reconciliation role, with Durrani highlighting Fazl’s potential as a national leader capable of fostering unity.
This engagement occurs as Pakistan anticipates upcoming elections in January next year. Notably, PTI’s Imran Khan is currently detained and ineligible for candidacy, while PML-N’s Nawaz Sharif aims to clear legal hurdles for a potential fourth term as prime minister.
