Popular Pakistani singer Quratulain Balouch, widely known as QB, was injured on Thursday night after being attacked by a rare brown bear during a camping trip at Deosai National Park in Skardu. She was rescued by nearby campers and rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared her condition stable and out of danger.
According to wildlife officials, the incident occurred near Bara Pani, one of Deosai’s most popular camping sites, where Balouch was staying with her team for a shoot. The Himalayan brown bear, native to the region, entered the campsite in search of food and attacked the singer.
Baltistan police spokesperson Ghulam Muhammad confirmed that Balouch was with two friends at the time of the attack. The bear clawed and bit both of her arms, leaving her injured, while her cameraman and another companion escaped unharmed. Sources said the animal fled after her screams attracted attention from nearby campers.
Wildlife staff stationed in the area quickly reached the site, provided first aid, and shifted the singer to RHQ Hospital Skardu. Medical officials later confirmed that her injuries were not life-threatening. Police have launched an investigation into the matter.
Authorities highlighted that the Himalayan brown bear, considered an endangered species, often wanders towards Bara Pani in search of food. Similar incidents have occurred in the past, prompting officials to advise tourists to pitch tents near designated safe zones or hotels instead of isolated areas.
Stretching across Skardu and Astore districts, Deosai National Park is one of Pakistan’s most scenic landscapes, attracting thousands of domestic and international tourists each summer. The park is home to a variety of wildlife, including Himalayan marmots and the endangered Himalayan brown bear, whose population in the region is estimated at just 77.
