In a remarkable display of skill and dominance, the Indian men’s hockey team secured a resounding 10-2 victory over Pakistan in their fourth Asian Games 2023 hockey Pool A match. The match took place at the Gongshu Canal Sports Park Stadium in Hangzhou, the People’s Republic of China.
Indian captain Harmanpreet Singh emerged as the star of the match, showcasing his exceptional prowess by scoring four goals (11′, 17′, 33′, 34′). The team’s goal scorers also included Mandeep Singh (8′), Sumit (30′), Varun Kumar (41′, 54′), Shamsher Singh (46′), and Lalit Kumar Upadhyay (49′). Pakistan managed to score two consolation goals through Muhammad Khan (38′) and Abdul Rana (45′).
This commanding victory solidified the Indian hockey team’s position at the top of the Pool A standings, with an impressive record of four wins in as many matches. Japan and Pakistan currently hold the second and third positions in the pool, both accumulating nine points each.
The clash between India and Pakistan marked the 180th encounter between the two teams in men’s hockey history. India’s victory in this match brought their total wins to 66, while Pakistan has secured 82 wins in these encounters.
In their upcoming fixture, India will face Bangladesh in the final group game, scheduled for Monday.
