Islamabad on Sunday witnessed a massive rally, the “Gaza March,” organized by Jamaat-e-Islami to protest against the hostile actions of Israel and advocate for the rights of Palestine. The rally saw robust participation from men, women, and children alike.
Commencing from Aabpara Chowk, the march culminated at Atta Turk Avenue, where an elaborate stage had been erected for the speakers. The demonstrators had brought with them a multitude of banners and placards, emblazoned with slogans echoing their solidarity with Palestine.
The venue was overflowing with attendees, leaving little space for the demonstrators to stand. Notably, several children adorned themselves in costumes adorned with the hues of the Palestinian flag, while some proudly displayed the flag on their faces.
Jamaat-e-Islami’s leadership also took to the stage to address the fervent participants, with the Amir, Siraj ul Haq, expressing gratitude for their unwavering support during his speech.
Siraj ul Haq highlighted an alleged incident where the announcement of a protest in front of the US embassy prompted a call from the American Deputy Ambassador to Pakistani authorities, suggesting concerns about potential unrest.
He also lamented the Islamabad administration’s reported use of force against the workers preparing for the march, including the deployment of batons and the removal of their posters from the streets.
In a poignant query, Siraj ul Haq asked, “Who is all this being done to please?” He juxtaposed these actions with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan’s gathering in solidarity with Palestine, emphasizing the need for a similar stance in Pakistan.
Concluding his address, he announced the next Million March scheduled to take place in Lahore on November 19.
