The Awami National Party (ANP) has made a significant announcement, revealing its plan to take the issue of new delimitations and constituency swaps to the courts.
Aimal Wali Khan, the ANP President in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, expressed strong dissatisfaction with the reduction in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s population and the consequential adjustments in constituencies. He argued that such changes are having an adverse impact on the political landscape.
Mr. Khan firmly asserted that reducing the number of seats in the National Assembly, based on population ratios, is unreasonable and inequitable. He drew attention to the millions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa residents who had been forced to relocate to other provinces due to the scourge of terrorism, claiming that their inclusion in the population count had been neglected.
Highlighting the challenges faced by the province, Aimal Wali Khan mentioned the limited control over natural resources and the closure of international trade routes. Despite Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s wealth in terms of natural resources, he lamented the lack of recognition of their rights. He stressed that the province, which has borne the brunt of terrorism, should not be subjected to unfair treatment.
The provincial president of ANP declared that the party is actively pursuing collaboration with other political entities to formulate a joint action plan. This strategic move is intended to address the concerns related to the new delimitations and swaps, thereby ensuring a fair and equitable political process.
