Fearing for the safety of her husband, former Prime Minister Imran Khan, in Adiala Jail, Bushra Bibi, the former first lady, has taken her concerns to the Islamabad High Court (IHC). She has requested increased security measures amid worries of potential poisoning.
In August, Imran Khan was sentenced to three years in prison and fined Rs100,000 for providing false asset declarations to the Election Commission of Pakistan. Additionally, PTI chief Imran Khan was disqualified for five years, seemingly ending his hopes of participating in the upcoming general elections.
Adiala Jail, known for housing several former prime ministers during their sentences, currently holds the deposed prime minister.
On Monday, Bushra Bibi, represented by her lawyer Latif Khosa, filed a petition with the IHC, expressing her concerns that her husband could be exposed to poisoning while incarcerated.

The petitioner pointed out that any tampering with her husband’s food could pose a serious threat to his life. She emphasized that Imran Khan is not receiving the entitled facilities, as specified in the prison manual. She cited previous instances where other prisoners received these facilities, but her husband was denied even home-cooked meals.
Bushra Bibi stated that her husband’s treatment in jail is inhumane and violates Articles 9 and 14 of the Constitution.
She implored the court to intervene and ensure that court orders regarding the provision of facilities to her husband in jail are implemented. Furthermore, she urged the court to direct the responsible medical officer to ensure the supply of healthy food to Khan.
Bushra Bibi also requested the court to instruct relevant authorities to grant Imran Khan the privilege of exercising and taking walks during his incarceration.
