An Islamabad Accountability Court has taken a significant step in the ongoing legal proceedings, issuing notices to prominent Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leaders, Asif Ali Zardari and Yousaf Raza Gilani.

These notices pertain to cases involving fake bank accounts and Tosha Khana. Both Asif Zardari and Yousuf Raza Gilani have been summoned in the Tosha Khana case on October 24. Notably, they are being summoned in their personal capacity. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) investigation officers presented records related to these cases at the judicial complex. The investigating officers and the registrar of the accountability court reviewed the references.

Furthermore, Asif Zardari has also been notified for another appearance on October 24, this time in connection with the case related to fake bank accounts.

In a related development, the Supreme Court of Pakistan issued a landmark verdict on September 15 concerning amendments to the National Accountability Ordinance. The court announced its reserved verdict on a petition filed by the Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and as a result, suspended certain amendments to the NAB law.

The court’s judgment highlighted the significance of the NAB clause related to the Service of Pakistan. This decision partially declared the Chairman of PTI’s petition as “admissible” and had implications for the restoration of references against politicians holding public positions.

Specifically, the ruling reinstated the NAB clause related to the Service of Pakistan, which had been a point of contention. The decision favored the Chairman of PTI’s petitions by invalidating the clause that excluded references up to 500 million from NAB’s jurisdiction while maintaining the authority to file references against individuals in public office.

This legal development marks a significant moment in Pakistan’s accountability and legal landscape, with implications for ongoing and future cases involving political figures.
