A local court in Lahore has issued a bailable arrest warrant for Moonis Elahi, a close aide of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, in a case related to money laundering.
The warrant was issued due to Moonis Elahi’s non-compliance with court summons. The order was issued by Special Court (Central-I), Lahore, presided over by Justice Abdul Sattar Langah. According to the order, a bailable arrest warrant of Rs. 100,000 has been issued against Moonis Elahi under Section 90 (a) of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). The warrant is set for the date fixed, which is 11/10/2023.
During the hearing, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) investigation officer informed the court that the suspect had been avoiding receiving the summons. The FIA submitted a written statement indicating that reports regarding the service of summons to Moonis Elahi in England and Spain had been received through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA). The reports indicated that the accused had either avoided receiving the summons or was not available at the provided addresses.
Based on the FIA’s plea and the reports received from MOFA regarding the service of summons, the Lahore court approved the FIA’s request and issued a bailable arrest warrant for Moonis Elahi.
Moonis Elahi, who has been living abroad for the past few months, left for Spain in late December 2022. Reports suggest that he remains abroad to avoid potential political victimization in Pakistan.
