Lahore: A Lahore court on Monday sent popular YouTuber Saadur Rehman, widely known as Ducky Bhai, on a 14-day judicial remand in a case related to the promotion of illegal online gambling applications.

The decision came after the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) sought an extension of his physical custody, which the court declined. Judicial Magistrate Naeem Wattoo ordered that the influencer be placed in judicial custody instead.

Arrest and Charges

Ducky Bhai was taken into custody at Lahore airport last month after authorities accused him and other social media influencers of endorsing betting platforms, including Binomo, 1xBet, Bet365, and B9 Game.

The case has been registered under several provisions of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016, including sections on electronic fraud, forgery, spamming, and spoofing. Additionally, sections 294-B (offering prizes related to trade) and 420 (cheating) of the Pakistan Penal Code were invoked.

Investigators allege that the promotions, which began in June, encouraged young followers to engage in online betting, resulting in financial losses for many.

Bail Application Filed

On Tuesday, Rehman’s legal team submitted a bail petition, arguing that the case was baseless and motivated by “ulterior motives.” The application stated that no direct victims had lodged complaints and that the YouTuber had no prior criminal record.

The defence also maintained that the cited PPC offences are bailable, and that none of the promoted apps had been officially banned at the time of the endorsements. The petition further stressed that the accused is not a flight risk and is willing to post surety bonds.

The court has issued notices to the NCCIA and set September 12 as the date for the bail hearing.
