Pakistan’s world amateur snooker champion, Muhammad Asif, delivered a flawless performance on Friday to secure the title at the third SAARC Snooker Championship, held at the Moors Snooker Club in Colombo.
Asif dominated the final against Sri Lanka’s Thaha Irshath, clinching a commanding 5-0 victory without losing a single frame. He impressed spectators with frame scores of 99-3, 73-46, 85-38, 109-6, and 74-0.
The Faisalabad-based cueist registered three breaks of 50 or more during the best-of-nine frames final, including a top break of 67 in both the opening and closing frames, showcasing his exceptional skill and cue control.
The victory marks Asif’s eighth career title, further solidifying his status as one of the most accomplished amateur snooker players in the region.
“Winning this title is a moment of great pride for me and Pakistan,” Asif said after his triumph.
Asif’s win also makes him the second Pakistani to claim the SAARC Snooker Championship title, following Asjad Iqbal, who won the inaugural event in 2019.
At 42, Muhammad Asif has already cemented his legacy in amateur snooker. In addition to this latest achievement, he is a three-time world champion, having won the IBSF World Snooker Championship in 2012, 2019, and 2024.
