The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted the arrival of a new rain system in Pakistan starting January 14, which is expected to bring rainfall across various regions and alleviate the dense fog currently affecting parts of the country.
According to the PMD, dry weather persists across Punjab, including Lahore, where thick fog has blanketed the plains. Visibility in some areas has dropped to as low as 50 meters, posing challenges for road traffic.
The minimum temperature recorded in Lahore today was 5°C, while the maximum temperature is expected to reach 17°C. The anticipated rainfall is expected to provide some relief by reducing fog intensity in affected areas.
Meanwhile, the cold wave continues to grip Karachi and the rest of Sindh. The PMD predicts that cold and dry conditions will persist for the next two days. In Karachi, the temperature dropped to as low as 8.5°C, with the maximum temperature ranging between 25°C and 27°C. Stronger-than-usual winds have also been reported in the city.
Light rain or drizzle is expected in parts of Sindh, including Sanghar, Tharparkar, and Umerkot districts, by the evening or night of the following day, according to the PMD’s forecast.
The department advises travelers to exercise caution on roads, especially in Punjab, due to low visibility caused by dense fog.
