Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani of Pakistan and his Cuban counterpart, Bruno Rodriguez Parilla, convened in New York during the 78th United Nations General Assembly Session, where they pledged to elevate bilateral relations across trade, biotechnology, health, and education sectors.
The meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the General Assembly late on Tuesday, featured extensive discussions on a wide array of bilateral, multilateral, and regional subjects, as reported by the Foreign Office.
Foreign Minister Jilani expressed appreciation for the strong and amicable ties shared between Pakistan and Cuba, characterized by a convergence of views on various regional and global matters. He particularly commended the close collaboration between the two nations in multilateral forums, with a special mention of their cooperation within the United Nations, Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), and the G-77& China group.
Minister Jilani took a moment to recall the generous medical assistance extended by Cuba to Pakistan following the devastating earthquake in 2005. He noted that at that time, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parilla, who was Deputy Foreign Minister of Cuba, remained in Pakistan for over six months to offer support and solidarity.
Furthermore, Foreign Minister Jilani expressed Pakistan’s full support for Cuba during its Chairmanship of the G-77& China for the year 2023. He also congratulated his Cuban counterpart on the successful organization of the G-77+China Summit held in Havana on September 15-16, 2023.
The meeting between the two foreign ministers underscores the commitment of Pakistan and Cuba to strengthen their bilateral relations and collaborate on various fronts at the international stage.
