In a significant move, Chief Justice of Pakistan, Qazi Faez Isa, has appointed Ms. Jazeela Aslam as the Registrar of the Supreme Court (SC), making her the first woman to hold this position in the history of the apex Court.
In addition to this appointment, Dr. Muhammad Mushtaq Ahmed has been appointed as the Secretary to the Chief Justice, and Abdul Sadiq has been appointed as a staff officer, as announced in a press release issued on Sunday.
Before her appointment as Registrar of the Supreme Court, Jazeela Aslam served as the District and Sessions Judge in Okara, with previous positions in Kasur and Sialkot. She holds the distinction of being the most senior female District and Sessions Judge in Punjab. Ms. Aslam began her judicial career as a Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate in 1994. Her extensive experience includes roles as Deputy Solicitor, an instructor at the Federal Judicial Academy, and Director of Academic Affairs at the Punjab Judicial Academy.
Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed, prior to his appointment, served as a Professor and Chairman of the Department of Shariah and Law at Shifa Tameer-e-Milat University. He played a pivotal role in establishing the Law Department there and has a prolific academic record with eleven books and fifty research papers covering various aspects of law. Dr. Ahmed has also provided assistance to the Supreme Court as an amicus curiae and served as a jurist consultant at the Federal Shariat Court in several cases.
Abdul Sadiq, who has been appointed as a staff officer to the Chief Justice, previously served as a Security Officer in the Balochistan High Court before being seconded during the present Chief Justice’s tenure.
