Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) recent intra-party polls faced a challenge on Tuesday as PTI founding member Akbar S Babar approached the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) seeking fresh polls.
Babar alleged irregularities in the polls held in Peshawar on December 2, where Barrister Gohar Khan, nominated by former chairman Imran Khan, emerged as the new officeholder. Babar, along with other party members, filed a petition at the ECP headquarters in Islamabad, urging the commission to declare the elections “Null and Void” and order the PTI to conduct transparent intra-party polls.
The petition called for independent third-party monitors and suggested holding the party’s symbol, the “bat,” in abeyance until fresh elections are conducted in accordance with the law.
Babar criticized Gohar Khan, stating that he had nothing to do with PTI and called on the ECP to nullify the intra-party polls to ensure transparent elections.
