n a heartbreaking incident that unfolded in Sindh’s Kandhkot district on Wednesday, eight lives, including five children, were tragically lost, while five others sustained injuries when a rocket launcher’s shell exploded inside a residence.
The Kandhkot Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Rohail Khoso, provided details regarding the unfortunate event.
The incident occurred within a house situated in the Ghora Ghat area of the kutcha (riverine) region. According to preliminary findings by the police, it was revealed that children had discovered the rocket launcher on agricultural land and subsequently brought it home, leading to the catastrophic explosion.
Promptly responding to the emergency, rescue personnel swiftly transported the deceased and injured individuals to the hospital. The law enforcement agency has initiated an investigation to ascertain the precise circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
In the wake of this devastating event, the interim Chief Minister of Sindh, Maqbool Baqar, took immediate notice and called for a comprehensive report from Inspector-General (IG) Dr. Riffat Mukhtar. The interim CM raised critical questions about how the rocket launcher had reached the village and whether there were any indications of illegal weapons smuggling into the kutcha areas. He also inquired about the presence of facilitators associated with criminal activities in the village, emphasizing the importance of a thorough investigation into the matter.
