As Pakistan prepares for its forthcoming elections, the country’s political arena is on the brink of a significant transformation, driven by a remarkable 57.1 million youth voters aged 18 to 35 out of nearly 127 million total voters. This demographic, often referred to as the “youth vote,” is poised to be a pivotal force in shaping the nation’s future.

Sindh leads the way with 11.6 million youth voters, closely followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 10.8 million, while Balochistan contributes 2.5 million, and Islamabad adds 0.5 million youthful voices to the mix.

In addition to the youth voters, Pakistan boasts 27.79 million voters aged 36 to 45, and 18.12 million voters aged 46 to 55. Furthermore, 11.8 million voters are between the ages of 56 to 65, while 12 million voters are aged above 66, showcasing the diverse range of age groups actively participating in the electoral process.

Punjab stands out with an impressive 31.7 million young voters eager to engage in the democratic process.

Data released by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) highlights a substantial increase in the overall number of registered voters nationwide, surging from approximately 105.95 million in 2018 to nearly 127 million as of July this year.

Male voters now exceed 68.50 million, while female voters have reached 58.47 million in 2023. In major urban areas, Islamabad has witnessed a remarkable rise from 765,447 voters in 2018 to over 1.04 million this year, according to ECP data.

This year, Punjab boasts a total voter count of 72.3 million, marking a significant increase from 60.6 million in 2018. Sindh’s voter numbers have grown from 22.3 million in 2018 to 26.6 million in 2023.

In 2018, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the former Federally Administered Tribal Area (FATA) combined had 10.53 million voters. Presently, that number has surged to 20.169 million in 2023. Balochistan also witnessed growth in voter count, reaching 5.28 million in 2023, compared to 4.29 million in 2018.
