The Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Commercial Banking Circle successfully conducted a raid, unearthing an astonishing amount of both foreign and local currency, totaling billions of rupees.

This discovery took place at an under-construction residential property in Shamsabad and the raid is part of a nationwide crackdown on hundi and hawala businesses conducted by exchange companies. Prior to this operation, meticulous evidence was gathered concerning illicit trading activities. Subsequently, a raid was carried out in Rawalpindi, targeting a residence.

This operation resulted in the seizure of 13 computerized iron lockers containing substantial sums of foreign and local currency in cash. Two individuals were apprehended in connection with these operations.

The FIA team had been surveilling the location for a week before commencing their operation, the source said. During their investigation, they discovered a small iron gate in the parking area of the double basement of the plaza. Spare construction equipment was also stored there. Upon breaching the outer walls, the team heard a hollow sound, indicating an empty space behind. After breaking through the wall, they uncovered a small secret door that concealed the 13 large iron lockers.

The premises were also equipped with security systems and cameras. It is reported that a contentious dispute arose between the FIA team and the plaza owner over the discovered money. The plaza owner insisted that the authorities should leave the money on site, while the FIA team asserted that the seized money would be confiscated. Subsequently, the FIA called the police for assistance, and a preliminary report was forwarded to higher authorities.
