Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Ali Zafar revealed on Monday that the party has confirmed 98%-99% of aspirants who are seeking to contest elections on a PTI ticket.
While speaking to a private TV channel, he stated that approvals have been given regarding which candidates will contest elections on specific seats. However, he mentioned that the official announcement of the candidates’ names is expected either today or tomorrow.
Zafar further shared that a significant number of lawyers have been granted tickets to contest the elections, although he clarified that there is no specific ratio regarding the allocation of tickets between lawyers and party workers.
With the elections in the country just a month away, many political parties, except a few, are yet to finalize their list of candidates. The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is facing challenges, including pressure to accommodate PTI dissidents, Istehkam Pakistan Party (IPP) of Jahangir Tareen, and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) in Punjab.
Meanwhile, the PTI has raised concerns about a level playing field and has alleged that it is being targeted. The party is also grappling with issues related to its election symbol, the “bat.” PTI has approached the Supreme Court with a petition challenging the January 3 order of the Peshawar High Court (PHC), which nullified PTI’s intra-party polls and stripped it of its iconic election symbol. Despite these challenges, PTI continues to navigate the electoral landscape ahead of the upcoming elections.
