The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has summoned the principal secretary to the prime minister and the secretary of the establishment division on October 23 (Monday) in their personal capacities. This summon is a result of their failure to adhere to the directives issued by the ECP, particularly in the case of transferring the Sheikhupura deputy commissioner.
In a recent statement, the ECP revealed that the Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, along with members Nisar Ahmed Durrani and Justice (retd) Ikramullah Khan, will preside over the hearing.
The statement clarified that the summon was initiated following an application submitted by the Istehkam- e-Pakistan Party (IPP) for the allocation of a symbol for the upcoming general polls, as per the guidelines outlined in rule 162 of the Election Act, 2017.
The ECP emphasized that Secretary to the Prime Minister, Dr. Touqeer Shah, and Establishment Division Secretary Inamullah, are expected to provide an explanation to the commission for their non-compliance with the ECP’s directives to transfer Sheikhupura Deputy Commissioner Waqar Ali.
