The Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) has formally applied for permission to acquire a venue for a six-day event, initiating a flurry of conflicting claims and counter-claims with the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Lahore.
Former MPA Bilal Yasin confirmed the submission of a letter to the DC Office Lahore, seeking permission for a rally scheduled for October 21, with a request to utilize a section of the ground from October 15 for preparatory arrangements.
However, an official source from the DC Lahore asserted that the request did not include a landing pad for a helicopter, raising questions about potential logistical arrangements for the event. Bilal Yasin refuted these claims, stating that discussions with the DC had indeed taken place, yet details were confidential due to security concerns.
The DC source further alleged that Mr Yasin left the office without delivering the permission letter, a claim that the party has vehemently denied. Yasin maintained that the letter was submitted during the first meeting on October 13, emphasizing the comprehensive security measures being considered for Nawaz Sharif’s expected attendance.
Regarding legal strategies and the potential need for Nawaz Sharif to seek protective bail, Yasin indicated that the legal team had a detailed plan in place, which might not require the former prime minister’s physical presence.
The matter will be presented to the district intelligence committee for deliberation, likely on Saturday, according to the DC Office, emphasizing that a decision will be made accordingly. The source also highlighted that the number of days requested, in comparison to other political parties, might not be the decisive factor in the final approval.
