The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has suspended the party membership of senior leader and lawyer Sardar Latif Khosa over his failure to respond to a show-cause notice issued against him for violating the party’s policy.
The suspension also applies to his membership in the Central Executive Committee (CEC), according to the party spokesperson. On September 14, the PPP issued a notice to Khosa for defending the head of another political party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), without prior approval, and asked him to explain why action should not be taken against him.
The notice stated that as a member of the Central Executive Committee of the PPP, Khosa defended and represented the head of another political party in corruption cases for which he had been convicted, as well as in a case under the Official Secrets Act. It further mentioned that Khosa criticized the state’s policy regarding the cipher issue during a lawyers’ function.
The notice warned that Khosa’s party membership would be terminated if he failed to respond within the specified time period. However, Khosa did not reply to the show-cause notice, leading to his suspension.
Sardar Latif Khosa, a senior lawyer and PPP leader, had been publicly at odds with his party leaders for defending the PTI chief’s stance on various political matters.
