Born as Allah Wasai on September 21, 1926, in Kasur, Noor Jehan, affectionately known as the “Melody Queen,” left an indelible mark on the world of music and entertainment. Her life story is a testament to her unparalleled talent and enduring impact.
From her humble beginnings in Kasur, Noor Jehan’s journey to stardom was nothing short of remarkable. Her enchanting voice and distinctive style quickly earned her the titles of “Melody Queen” and “Queen of Hearts,” cementing her status as a musical legend.
As a child star, she made her debut in the 1935 film “Pind Di Kadiyan.” However, it was her collaboration with music maestro Ghulam Haider in the 1941 film “Khazanchi” that marked a turning point in her career. Noor Jehan’s mesmerizing playback singing became the soul of countless films and won the hearts of audiences.
Throughout her career, Noor Jehan showcased her remarkable talents not only as a playback singer but also as an actress. Her acting prowess shone in renowned films like “Anmol Ghari,” “Hersial,” and “Sassi Pannu.” Yet, it was her extraordinary voice that truly set her apart.
Noor Jehan’s career reached new heights in 1941 with the release of “Dhanadan,” a Bombay film that catapulted her into stardom. Even after the creation of Pakistan, she continued to dazzle audiences with her acting and playback singing.
During the Indo-Pak war of 1965, Noor Jehan’s soul-stirring patriotic songs became an integral part of Pakistan’s history. In recognition of her exceptional contributions, the Government of Pakistan honored her with the Presidential Medal for Good Performance and Nishan Imtiaz.
