A terrorist attack on the Hathala police station in Dera Ismail Khan resulted in the tragic loss of one police official’s life, while two others sustained injuries.
The assailants launched their assault on the police station, employing heavy weaponry that included hand grenades in the attack. The wounded officers were promptly transported to the district hospital for medical treatment.
Despite efforts to save him, one of the injured police officials hailing from Buner district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa ultimately succumbed to his injuries during medical treatment. The attack inflicted substantial damage on the police station’s main gate. However, the terrorists withdrew after a fierce exchange of fire with law enforcement personnel.
Earlier, in a significant development, a notorious terrorist wanted in connection with more than ten cases by law enforcement agencies met his end in an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Dera Ismail Khan district.
Security forces and the police acted upon credible intelligence, which indicated that the infamous terrorist, Haibat Khan, was present in Kulachi. A comprehensive door-to-door search operation was initiated in the area, leading to a successful outcome. Haibat Khan carried a substantial reward of six million rupees for his capture, dead or alive.
During the search operation, as security forces and police approached the house where the wanted terrorist was hiding, Haibat Khan and his associates opened fire on the search party. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, Haibat Khan was neutralized, while his accomplices managed to escape. It is worth noting that Haibat Khan was wanted in connection with ten terrorism cases, making his elimination a significant achievement.
Additionally, law enforcement recovered an AK-47 rifle and hand grenades from his possession, further underscoring the gravity of the threat he posed. The successful IBO represents a significant step in the ongoing efforts to counter terrorism in the region.
