The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a stern warning to all district administrations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as a new series of heavy rains, accompanied by strong winds, is poised to descend upon the region, beginning today.

In anticipation of the forthcoming weather changes that are expected to impact the region, the PDMA has urgently advised district authorities to implement precautionary measures to safeguard lives and property. This advisory is a response to the significant risk of urban flooding in low-lying areas due to the anticipated heavy rainfall.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (Met Office) announced on Wednesday that the final spell of monsoon rain is expected to sweep across the upper parts of Pakistan, starting from Thursday, as the monsoon season withdraws from the country.

The monsoon rain is predicted to bring moderate to heavy rainfall, accompanied by wind and thunderstorms, to various regions, including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Kohat, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Haripur, Kurram, Waziristan, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mianwali, Sargodha, Khushab, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Zhob, Barkhan, Layyah, Bhakkar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Okara, Pakpattan, Sahiwal, Multan, Bahawalpur, and Bahawalnagar, from September 28 to 30.

Additionally, snowfall is anticipated over the high mountains of Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan during this period.

The Met Office has also forecasted a significant drop in temperature in the areas affected by this spell of rain and snowfall. Residents and local authorities are urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during these adverse weather conditions.
