The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in Peshawar has nabbed four terrorists involved in devastating suicide attack on Chinese engineers in Bisham city, Shangla district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa last month.
According to the sources, four terrorists associated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) have been apprehended for their involvement in the deadly explosion that targeted a car carrying five Chinese citizens and their Pakistani driver on March 26.
The arrested individuals were part of the same network as the suicide bomber and other terrorists involved in the attack, as stated by a spokesperson for the CTD.
Earlier this month, the CTD had detained over 10 terrorists and facilitators associated with outlawed TTP-affiliated outfits suspected of participating in the March 26 attack.
The Chinese engineers, who were working on the Dasu Dam project, were attacked while traveling on the Karakoram Highway. Following the incident, Chinese companies overseeing operations at both the Dasu and Diamer-Bhasha Dams temporarily suspended civil work due to security concerns.
The investigation revealed significant details about the attack, including the origin of the explosive-laden vehicle from Afghanistan, transportation routes via border crossings, and the involvement of facilitators in Pakistan.
Security forces arrested the facilitator responsible for transporting the vehicle from the Pak-Afghan Chaman border crossing to Chakdara in Lower Dir. Additionally, the mastermind of the attack, identified as Hazrat Bilal, remains at large and is wanted by security forces.
With two accomplices of the suicide bomber already in custody, the CTD anticipates the swift arrest of Hazrat Bilal. The arrests were facilitated by utilizing mobile and SIM data obtained from the suicide bomber through an intermediary.
