Caretaker Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mohammad Azam Khan, passed away at the age of 89, according to his nephew, Muhammad Ahmed Khan.
The spokesperson for Rehman Medical Complex, Shabbir Shah, confirmed the news. The chief minister, a former bureaucrat and Barrister-at-Law from Lincoln’s Inn, London, had taken the oath of office in January of the current year. His sudden demise comes after being admitted to an intensive care unit following a recent decline in health.
Ahmed Khan mentioned that his uncle appeared in good health just a day before and had discussed plans to visit Charsadda University the following Monday. The former chief minister had an extensive career, serving in various capacities in both federal and provincial governments, including key positions such as minister for interior, capital administration and development, and provincial minister for finance, planning, and development.
Condolences poured in from various political figures, with Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori expressing grief and PPP leader Faisal Karim Kundi expressing deep sadness over the loss.
