Former federal minister, Muhammad Ali Durrani, has unveiled a strategy for national reconciliation among political parties and institutions, emphasizing the collective desire for peace and harmony in Pakistan.
Durrani, a former senator who held the position of federal information minister in the cabinet of former Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, gained widespread attention within the political sphere following a recent meeting with President Dr. Arif Alvi.
During a media statement, he clarified that the meeting was initiated independently, driven by his commitment to address Pakistan’s needs as a politician. Durrani stressed the importance of implementing confidence-building measures.
In an exclusive interview with a private TV channel, Durrani reiterated his call for political reconciliation in the country. To achieve this goal, he proposed conducting local body elections concurrently with general elections.

“Holding local body elections alongside the general polls will serve as a safeguard against rigging,” Durrani affirmed. When questioned about the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) response to his proposal, he suggested that an ordinance would be necessary to organize simultaneous local body and general elections.
Regarding his discussions with leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Durrani disclosed that many members of the former ruling party opposed the “politics of confrontation.” He claimed that the PTI chairman also shared the sentiment of avoiding confrontation.
Durrani emphasized that no one in the country currently advocates for a confrontational political approach, and there is a widespread desire to promote peace and harmony for the prosperity of Pakistan. Additionally, he revealed that he had offered advice to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif, encouraging him not to adopt a confrontational narrative. He expressed gratitude that Nawaz Sharif had heeded his advice.
