Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar took a significant step on Monday by inaugurating a comprehensive five-day anti-polio vaccination drive, with the ambitious goal of reaching nearly 44 million children throughout Pakistan.
At the Prime Minister’s residence, the campaign was initiated as PM Kakar personally administered oral drops of the anti-polio vaccine and vitamin A supplements to children. Interim Health Minister Dr. Nadeem Jan and senior officials joined him in this critical initiative.
During his address, PM Kakar highlighted the pivotal role of 350,000 dedicated polio workers who will be actively participating in this campaign, ensuring that anti-polio vaccines are provided to children aged 0-5 years across the nation. He emphasized that these polio workers are the unsung heroes of the nation, facing numerous challenges to make the anti-polio drive a resounding success. Furthermore, he acknowledged the invaluable support of international partners in Pakistan’s ongoing battle to eliminate polio.
In a passionate plea, Kakar called upon religious scholars and clerics to contribute by persuading parents to have their children vaccinated against polio. He stressed the moral and religious responsibility of safeguarding future generations from this debilitating disease, declaring,
“It is our religious, moral, and social duty to protect our nation’s future from the scourge of polio. Together, we must make Pakistan a polio-free country.”
