In a significant operation, Pakistan Customs successfully intercepted a smuggling attempt at Jinnah Terminal, Karachi Airport, seizing a cache of 168 valuable iPhone sets with an estimated worth of around Rs130 million. Deputy Director of Customs Intelligence, Inam Wazir, confirmed that the swift action was taken based on prior intelligence about the smuggling operation.
Passengers arriving on an Air Arabia flight from Sharjah were attempting to evade customs scrutiny, purportedly using the green channel for unchecked clearance. However, acting on a tip-off, authorities apprehended the individuals and recovered the high-value iPhone sets, the sources said.
Investigations are currently underway into the organised smuggling network believed to be involved in this operation. This interception follows a similar incident earlier in the week, emphasizing the ongoing efforts of Pakistani authorities to combat smuggling activities at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport.
Notably, the seized iPhones included popular models such as the iPhone 15 Pro Max and 14 Pro Max. Pakistani Customs has been actively combating smuggling attempts, as evidenced by previous seizures of contraband valued at Rs61.8 million from passengers arriving from Dubai, UAE. These continuous efforts highlight the commitment of Pakistani authorities to curbing illegal trade activities at the nation’s airports.
