In the early hours of Tuesday, an attack targeting personnel guarding an oil and gas exploration company’s camp in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Dera Ismail Khan resulted in the martyrdom of two policemen and injuries to three others.
The incident marks a continuation of recent terror activity in the region, following multiple attacks in the district just three days prior. Unidentified armed assailants launched the attack on a camp operated by Al-Haj Oil and Gas Private Drilling Company, specifically targeting the stationed police officers.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Asfar Ali Shah confirmed the deaths of ASI Rehmat Ali and Khan Arif, with Alamgir Khan, Fazlur Reman, and Ataur Rehman among the injured officers. The wounded officers were promptly transported to a nearby hospital, one of whom remains in critical condition.
Pakistan has experienced an increase in terror activities in recent months, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, following the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan’s (TTP) decision to end its ceasefire with the government in November of the previous year.
Notable incidents include the neutralization of nine terrorists in a Pakistan Air Force training base infiltration in Mianwali and the ambush of security forces’ vehicles in Gwadar resulting in the loss of 14 Pakistan Army soldiers.
According to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), the month of August witnessed the highest number of militant attacks in almost nine years, with 99 reported incidents across the country.
